Wacky Walking Week 2009

WWW09 runs from Monday 18th - Friday 22nd May 2009! The week aims to encourage children to walk to and from school as many times as possible throughout the week. It may be possible for parents to arrange a drop off point on the route to school if they feel the entire journey is too far.

Wacky Walking Week 2009

Wacky Walking Week is back!

Children will be able to record up to two miles a day for their class country. There will be double points on Wednesday as this is our normal walking day.  Year 6 pupils will receive double miles each day and 4 times their mileage on Wednesday.

Competition

This year’s theme for Wacky Walking Week is Friendship. We will be looking at the social benefits of walking and how this helps to develop good relationships with friends and families. This will be a great way to finish our current whole school SEAL topic on Relationships.

There are three categories which children may submit a piece of work:

1.    Writing – children are to write a story or report around the theme of friendship, which include the context of walking together. This can be either fiction or non-fiction. This work may be displayed in the library.

2.    Poetry – children are to submit a poem on A4 paper, which is about walking and friendship. This will be collated to make a poetry anthology for the library.

3.    Creative - A creative piece of work about walking and friendship. This could be submitted as a film, piece of art work, photomontage etc.

There will be a prize for each winner of the above categories. The winners of these will be announced in our Golden Book Assembly on Friday.

Wacky Friday

Any child who submits an entry to the competition will be allowed to wear their own choice of ‘wacky’ clothing on Friday and may also choose to don a ‘wacky’ hair style.

Good luck to everyone. Enjoy Wacky Walking Week 09.
